In Garland, North Carolina sits a very old (by modern economic standards) clothing factory. It’s called the Garland Shirt Company and it creates shirts for the world famous “Brooks Brothers” line. It’s also a workplace laboratory of sorts where workers team together to guarantee the finished products are perfect. This story aired on UNC-TV’s “North Carolina Now” program. This story has been one of the most popular, online videos I’ve posted because of the customized shirt-making and the outlet store.
The plant manager discussed the outlet store that operates on the factory grounds. He says it’s a true outlet shopping experience. Sometimes customers can come and there will be a wide variety of Brooks Brothers “seconds” in inventory and sometimes there’s nothing really to sell. It depends on quality control and how the week has gone from a manufacturing standpoint. You gamble a tank of gas by driving down to Garland to check out the shirt inventory.
